The State Fair of Texas
The State Fair of Texas is one of Dallas' greatest annual attractions. Along with more than 2 million other folks, each fall we enjoy attending the fair - moseying through the livestock barns, experiencing the thrills of the midway and, of course, indulging in Fletcher's Corny Dogs. Established in 1886 running 24 consecutive days, our state fair is the longest-running fair in the nation, as well as one of the largest.
Cattle Baron's Ball
Dallas Cattle Baron's Ball is the original and largest of the nation's Cattle Baron's Balls. For almost 50 years, Dallas CBB has raised funds for the American Cancer Society - $85 million to date. It has enabled 40,000 patients to recieve treatment and has provided funding to 47 Nobel Prize winning scientists. More than 3,000 guests attend the largest single-night fundraiser for the ACS. Imagine the best ranch party in the world, country's top entertainers, and you get the the picture.
Dallas Animal Services
When we were heartbroken following the loss of our precious Labrador, Homer, Dallas Animal Services came to our rescue with two new pups to love. Darcy and Lizzie were 8 weeks old when we adopted them, and they filled our home with joy again. If you have room in your heart and home, please give a dog or cat in your community in need a forever, loving home.
The Dallas Zoo
We truly love the Dallas Zoo. One of the first dates my husband and I went on was to our zoo. Decades later, we now delight in taking our grandchildren to experience this 106-acre wonderland full of incredible animals and family acitvities.
Each year Kappa Kappa Gamma hosts its Dallas fundraiser, Kappa Tablescapes. Although not a Kappa, I've participated four times as a table designer. This photo was from my table, "A Secret Garden." I love tablesetting and have a serious china collecting addiction.
Crystal Charity Ball
Crystal Charity Ball is the Grande Dame of Dallas' fierce philanthropic heart. The ball, held the first Saturday night in December, raises multi-millions annually for Dallas County children's charities. What girl doesn't love to get dressed up and go to the ball with her prince?
Southern Methodist University
One of the jobs I enjoy the most is conceptualizing and coordinating photo shoots. This one features Leo, one of SMU's polo horses - and he modeled like a champ. When SMU isn't playing my Aggies, I always root for the home team. Photo by Duke Morse.
Mad Hatter's Tea Party
One most fun annual events in Dallas is the Mad Hatter's Tea Party. The fundraiser, hosted each year by the Women's Council of the Dallas Arboretum, is always a sell-out. More than 450 women can spend months planning elaborate hats. This photo shoot, featuring the awesome actor Billy Blair as the Mad Hatter, is one of my favorites we've done. Photo by Duke Morse.
The Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge
We were thrilled to attend the opening of the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge. The Dallas skyline feature was designed by internationally renowned architect and engineer Santiago Calatrava. The bridge has a 400 foot center arch.
Suicide and Crisis Center of North Texas
For more than 50 years, Suicide and Crisis Center of North Texas has been bringing hope to those in pain. I thoroughly enjoyed editing Fashion Stars for a Cause magazine with my great creative team. If you suspect someone is in crisis, please reach out to them. You all the time in the world, but they may not.
Dallas Farmer's Market
It's wonderful that in one of the largest cities in the country, we have locally-grown produce. The Dallas Farmer's Market is located downtown amid the shadow of highrises. It's a great place to spend a Saturday morning.
We love our pro sports teams. We have the Dallas Stars hockey, the Dallas Mavericks basketball, and next door, the Texas Rangers baseball and, of course, the Dallas Cowboys. Our grandkids play hockey, and it's exciting to take them to a Dallas Stars game when they visit.
